Write a 300 word paper in which you briefly describe the differences between sociological social psychology, socialization, and social process.
Design a chart in which you list and describe the theories, concepts, or norms included in the following:
* Social structure theories
* Strain theories
* Cultural deviance theories
* Learning theories
Sociological social psychology involves studies on how individuals think about, relate to and influence each other. It analyzes the interactions between people which affects a wide range of issues. It involves the examination of personal behavior and whether it is based on the personality or environment. Socialization involves the way people learn the beliefs and norms of the society through family and friends’ experiences in building the societal values and expectations. Social process is different in that involves the ways that individuals and groups interact, adjust and readjust as well as establish relationships and patterns of behavior through social interactions.
Social structure theories focus on poverty, lack of education, and subcultural values as the major of causes of crime. Social structure theories include, social disorganization theory, strain theory and culture conflict theory.
Strain theories focus on the argument that strain leads to the creation of pressures and incentives towards engaging in criminal activities as a response to the strain. Strain theories points the conflict between the socially approved success goals and the available social approved means to achieve the goals. Strain theories include anomie theory, institutional anomie theory, the general strain theory and relative deprivation theory.
Cultural deviance theories are based on the tenant that conformity to the prevailing cultural norms of lower class society causes crimes. The theories focus on explaining how the lower class react to the society and economic isolation and deprivation from the rest. The theories from cultural deviance include structural functionalism, symbolic interaction and conflict theory.
The major learning theories involves behaviorist, cognitive constructivist and social constructivist theories. Behaviorism theory explains that knowledge is obtained through behavioral responses to the stimuli environment. Cognitive constructivism involves cognitive structures which are actively constructed based on pre-existing cognitive structures. For social constructivism theory, it involves the construction of knowledge within social contexts through interactions with knowledgeable individuals and groups.
